The course provides knowledge of the wood raw material as such, and the potential for an optimal production of forest trees from a biological and biotechnical perspective.
The course covers wood formation, wood cell wall-biosynthesis, -chemistry, -ultrastructure and their relation to mechanical and industrial use.

The course provides knowledge about biotechnical applications in wood production and post harvest modifications, and the prospects of new fiber based products.
The course also provides theory and practice in state of the art technology for analysis of wood and fiber and their properties.

Prerequisites BSc degree in Biology with 60 ECTS in Biology including 7.5 ECTS in Cell biology and 15 ECTS Chemistry, or the equivalent.
