The course deals with the structure and function of the plant cell. Important plant processes in the cell such as photosynthesis, respiration, carbohydrate metabolism, protein synthesis, mineral nutrition and signal perception and transmission are discussed from molecular, biochemical and physiological perspectives.

The course deals with the structure and function of the plant cell. Important plant processes in the cell such as photosynthesis, respiration, carbohydrate metabolism, protein synthesis, mineral nutrition and signal perception and transmission are discussed from molecular, biochemical and physiological perspectives.

The student will study current scientific literature covering a specific subject and communicate the main points in a written report. In the course, studies of current literature and an oral presentation are included.

The course will also provide practical experience of molecular, physiological and biochemical methods and techniques. The course is closely connected to research projects currently being pursued at the Umeå Plant Science Centre.
